所谓机上升舱，即符合条件的经济轮旅客，只需再补交差价就能进入商务成头等舱入座，比起直接购买商务舱或头等舱座位的价格普遍更优惠。不过，选择机上升舱后享受的却是有限服务，即餐食饮料、航空里程、免费行李份额等服务依旧是按照原来经济舱标准供应的。如果到达机场办理登机手续前，临时起意想升舱，则可以在地面服务台办理。多数航空公司都提供此项服务，不过要取决于同一个班次是否在登机前还有剩余的空位。比起“机上升舱”的服务，虽然在地面升舱的价格比较责，但却可以确保享有商务舱和头等舱的全系列配套服务。
